Microgaming USA Pullout

It looks like Microgaming are set to pullout of the USA altogether on the 1st June 2010. Playshare Partners who look after Casinoshare and Grand Mondial online casinos announced this week that they are migrating US casino players to “new” software ahead of the 1st June. This ties in with rumours circulating at the London and Amsterdam industry conferences earlier in 2010 that Microgaming will be pulling out of the USA when the UIGEA enforcement date kicks in. Which is also (un)coincidentally now set to happen on the 1st June, 2010.

But is this the end of the story? Probably not. Too things to note here: firstly the fact that there is “new” software available might indicate that an alternative is coming for USA players - not just those who are being migrated, but possibly for new players too. Additionally, a hearing has been scheduled for the 19th May by The House Ways and Means Committee regarding tax issues on online gaming, presumably related to Rep. Jim McDermott’s proposed legislation that sets out taxation on a regulated online gambling environment.

2010 - it’s all happening!

Meantime USA players looking for an online casino are still faced with the difficulty of deciding what makes a good safe online casino thanks to an ill-advised law initially designed to protect US players (if you believe what you’re told) but which has in actual fact put them more at risk. And still the mainstream press operate under the common misconception that the UIGEA made online gambling illegal in the United States! All very frustrating, but let’s hope all that is put right soon.
