Many casino regulars already know that Wagerworks, a wholly owned subsiduary of IGT UK, have a strict policy when it comes to certain countries signing up to play their games online for real money (or even free play for that matter). In fact, the list of countries that cannot currently play at Wagerworks casinos seems as big as the list of ones that can!
In amongst this is Canada….alhough the laws for Canadians are a bit fuzzier. In Canada, alledgedly, there is no law to outright ban online gambling, however some casinos see the law there as so woolly and grey that they don’t wan to take the risk. In addition, banking legislation is such in Canada that many banks recognise and block online gambling transactions. Unfortunately, this seems to affect cashouts from casinos more than the deposits, so some Canadians find they are accepted, but can’t get paid (easily, if at all). Many blame the casinos when in fact, it’s Canadian banking that is the issue.
Now, a few popular IGT games that can be found in land-based casinos are also available at Wagerworks casinos online. These include games such as Cleopatra, Davinci Diamonds and Wolf Run and can be found at places like Virgin casino, Paddy Power plus a few others I know. And in some instances, Wagerworks have licenced some of the games out to online casinos they don’t licence directly. Both Virgin and Paddy Power casinos say “no Canadians” in their terms incidentally.
But there a couple of “loopholes” for Canadian players. Totally legal. If you know where to look and don’t mind some compromises in the games you can actually access. In the OCSM article Canadians and IGT slots you will find a few possible solutions that allow you as as a resident of Canada to play certain IGT slots online.
